CURRICULUM VITAE 1. PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND 1.1. I am a member of the Johannesburg Bar: Group 16 Advocates in Sandton. 1.2. I have been in private practice as an Advocate in Johannesburg for about 28 years. 2. LITIGATION EXPERIENCE 2.1. I am experienced in Civil Litigation generally, including Family Law, Divorce Law, Personal Injury Litigation, Medical Negligence Litigation, Commercial Litigation and Opposed Applications. 2.2. I have previously acted for the Land Bank and Afgri as well as for smaller businesses in commercial matters. 2.3. I have been appointed on numerous occasions as Curator ad Litem to minor children and brain-injured patients, and have investigated and reported to the Court with my recommendations as to the best arrangements to be made for their financial management and personal supervision. 3. ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION BACKGROUND 3.1. By virtue of my experience in litigation, I believe that I am a skilled negotiator, having negotiated many settlements during my practice at the Bar. 3.2. During 1996, I qualified as a Divorce Mediator at the Family Life Centre in Parkwood. 3.3. I conducted co-mediations at the Family Life Centre until about the end of 1999. 3.4. During 1996, I underwent a course in Commercial Mediation presented under the auspices of the Arbitration Foundation of South Africa ("AFSA"). 3.5. From 16 to 19 October 2017, I attended the AFSA Domestic Arbitration course, trained by Michael Kuper SC and Attorney Charles Cohen. 3.6. From 7 to 11 December 2017, I completed the LEAD Law Society Civil Mediation training course, trained by Charles Mendelow and Charles Cohen. 4. ADVOCACY TRAINER From 2005 until 2013, I was a trainer participating in the Advocacy Training Programme of the Johannesburg Bar, training pupil advocates in Advocacy Skills and Court Room Technique. 4.1.1. I was on the Advocacy Training Committee from 2006 to 2010. 4.1.2. In that capacity, I also trained trainee Trainers how to train pupil advocates in advocacy skills. 5. FORMAL EDUCATION 5.1. I have a BA from UCT (1984) and LLB from Wits (1986) 5.2. I qualified as an attorney in 1988, and was thereafter in practice briefly as an attorney. 5.3. I was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court in October 1989 and became a member of the Johannesburg Bar in January 1990.
