1. Ms Retha Britz
Expertise: Organizing skills, facilitating/presenting informed consent, Medical Research.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Dedicate time as required and assist with improving communication and professionalism during webinars, communications, and courses offered by SAMLA.
2. Ms Shelley Broughon
Expertise: Occupational therapy (orthopaedic injuries, head and birth injuries, MVA, medical negligence & personal injury matters).
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Case management, medico-legal work, paediatric personal injury matters, marketing, and social media/website management.
3. Dr Jacques West
Expertise: Over 37 years’ medico-legal experience.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Highly skilled in case management, medico-legal work, paediatric personal injury matters, marketing, and social media/website management. Would like to contribute in all these areas.
4. Dr Luleca Gcawu
Expertise: Advanced midwife, academic, and manager with 26 years of combined clinical and academic experience; PhD in malpractice litigation.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: To strengthen governance and ethical oversight by drawing on extensive experience in clinical and academic midwifery practice, legal-ethical matters, and research.
5. Ms Deli Gumbi
Expertise: Compliance and Governance, Management and Leadership, Diversity and Inclusion (psychologist).
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Served on SABPP (2017–2020) and Psychology Board of HPCSA (2015–2025); brings governance and inclusion expertise.
6. Ms Dawn Hector
Expertise: General nursing practice, critical care, emergency care, nursing education, leadership, and management. Masters in Nursing; student in medico-legal practice.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: To advocate for ethical and medico-legal literacy and practices from a nursing perspective.
7. Dr Stefan Jansen van Vuuren
Expertise: Forensic pathology, death investigation, expert witness in civil and criminal matters involving death causation.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: To reach out to medical and legal professionals through cooperative communication.
8. Mr Johan Jordaan
Expertise: Treasurer/Attorney.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Treasurer responsibilities and financial oversight.
9. Dr Promise Korateng
Expertise: Radiological medico-legal expertise (general adult and paediatric radiologist, paediatric neuroradiologist).
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Strengthening medico-legal education and training; advancing standards, guidelines, and compliance.
10. Prof Henry Lerm
Expertise: Education and training in various fields of medico-legal discipline.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Education and training in law.
11. Ms Lily Malatsi-Teffo
Expertise: Litigation (civil, commercial), personal injury (medical negligence, malpractice, COIDA), estates (insolvency, deceased).
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Focus on strengthening corporate governance, enhancing visibility, driving empowerment, and fostering growth.
12. Dr Khomotjo Matjila
Expertise: Medical negligence, RAF assessments, independent psychiatric assessments (psychiatrist).
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Current board member on Credentialing and Transformation portfolio.
13. Adv Romeo Minnaar
Expertise: Medical law, labour law, criminal law, chairing disciplinaries.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Ensure the association grows and upholds its already high standards of ethics and professionalism.
14. Dr Mogori Mogashoa
Expertise: Organisational development, medico-legal practice administration, standards development (MBChB + Law).
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Organisational development and work to bring SAMLA to financial sustainability.
15. Adv Clementine Makhoana
Expertise: Strategic leadership, healthcare industry expertise, and legal insight (Advocate).
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: To contribute to SAMLA’s strategic positioning within the broader healthcare industry, while providing guidance on governance, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.
16. Mrs Nomvuyo Molefe
Expertise: Personal injury and road accident claims; Nursing.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: HR development, policy development, learning material development, and facilitation of learning.
17. Dr Janani Naidoo
Expertise: Otolaryngology, medical malpractice/negligence.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Promote safe practices and mediation as an alternative to litigation, and encourage better communication between legal and medical practitioners.
18. Dr Andre Olivier
Expertise: Orthopaedic surgeon/expert.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Engage with GPs and specialists to build healthy relationships with HPCSA and SAMLA.
19. Dr Ingrid Pooe
Expertise: Occupational medical practitioner with a diploma in Anaesthetics and an MBA, experienced in medico-legal support within the workers' compensation insurance sector, including COIDA section 90 and 91 tribunals and high court matters. Master Certified Independent Medical Examiner and freelance facilitator for FPD Evaluation of Permanent Impairment training based on the AMA Guides, as well as a SAMA Dispute Committee panel member.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: Blend of clinical depth, executive governance experience, and medico-legal expertise.
20. Prof Ethelwynn Stellenberg
Expertise: SAMLA Chairperson; researcher in malpractice litigation; focus area: safe quality patient care; experience in medico-legal practice.
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: To take SAMLA to greater heights and continue with good governance according to the Company Act. Strengthen the Foundation course, establish a footprint in Africa, and further develop mock trials and advanced mediation programmes in medico-legal practice.
21. Mrs Carina Van de Wall
Expertise: Malpractice and clinical negligence in healthcare (Nursing).
Proposed contribution/development to SAMLA: National Conference Organiser; mediation.

Expertise: Orthopaedic surgery, RAF claims, medical negligence/practice, AMA Guides impairment calculations.
