Short CV | |
I completed BLogopaedika (cum laude) in 1991, MLogopaedika (cum laude) in 1994 and DPhil (Communication Pathology) in 2004 at the University of Pretoria. My dissertation title was Temporal Aspects of Speech Production in Bilingual Speakers with Neurogenic Speech Disorders. My work experience includes working at Kalafong Hospital for approximately two years and thereafter at 1 Military Hospital for a year and a half as part of a multidisciplinary team involved in assessment and treatment of children and adults with a wide range of communication difficulties, including specifically, neurogenic speech and language disorders. Since May 1996, I have worked in private practice as part of a multidisciplinary team attending to the needs of adults and children with a wide range of speech, language and cognitive-communication difficulties after neurologic insult, as well as due to other causes. I have lectured part-time at the University of Pretoria and Medunsa in the areas of neurogenic speech and language disorders and dysphagia (swallowing disorders), as well as presented several seminars and workshops on the diagnosis and treatment of dysphagia. I have completed the 8-week Basic neurodevelopmental therapy course for the treatment of children with cerebral palsy, as well as the 3-week Basic Adult Hemiplegia course and two Advanced Speech practicums in Neurodevelopment therapy (NDT). I currently perform assessments on adults and children for medico-legal purposes full-time and have a full-time therapist employed who is responsible for the clinical work (therapy) at my practice. We assess and treat children and adults with neurogenic speech and language disorders, developmental delays affecting speech and language, auditory processing difficulties, general speech and language difficulties and learning difficulties.
